Sjock #43

SJOCK#43

Summer is coming and it’s time for festivals. It’s a good chance to see a lot of bands for good money. There are loads of festivals around so We are one hundred percent sure you will find one that fits your needs and wishes.

Our idea is crystal clear. We just need a couple of bands with known great live performance and a lot of bands that can perform a nice live concert. Many times we pay to see a great band and we realise that its live performance is far away from our expectations.

This year in our  “summer festival” list (it’s quite long), we have pay attention to  Sjock Festival. It will be on 6th,7th and 8th of July in a small Belgium’s town. It’s important that it will take place in July, couple of years ago we were happy attending Groetzrock Festival (hope it will be organise this summer festival back again), It happened in May and unfortunately, the rain was there for two days.

Rain is not a stopper for us at all, but it makes everything different, it makes everything less fun. On the top of it, I was so unlucky to trap with a rope and I ended up full of mood (I was not happy at all, but few people found it funny). We know the weather is unpredictable but we think in July there are fewer chances to rain than in other months (crossing fingers).

One important detail for us, we are in the forties, is to have the chance to sleep in a hotel. It’s very nice and funny to sleep in a tend when you are young, to have fun with your friends, do not worry about your back or hangover, but everything will change for you in the future, I promise. Our back is not the same than a teenager has. When you are standing for more than ten hours attending to different gigs your only concern is to sleep on a bed and don’t need a wheelchair the next day. If we bring our photography gear we won’t dare to leave it in a tend. To have the chance to sleep in a bed is a surplus.

Straight to the point, the most important thing for everybody, who the fuck will play. To date, these are the bands announced and we don’t know what days they will play.

We know there are not many bands, I think it will give the opportunity to see all of them. We won’t need to choose between different bands because they are overlapped. I prefer few and well-chosen bands instead of lots of bands with no sense, even so, I do not think we can enjoy all of them, there are always moments you want/need to stop and go for a walk, buy shirts and talk with your friends a little away from the noise.

Dead Kennedys can be the dark horse (I really hope so) since Jello Biafra is not with Dead Kennedys, almost no nice comments I read about their concerts.

Descendents are a severe thorn in my side. I think that once I see them, I will have just pending Propagandhi and then I will rest in peace. For one reason or another, I’ve never had the opportunity to see Descendents. Its last record, Hypercaffium Spazzinate, we reviewed the record no fee weeks ago, It’s the best one of 2017, they are sharing the position with victory Lap (Propagandhi).

Pennywise: I can not be objective at all. My hope you do not hear the boomy sound as in the last few concerts I’ve seen them. Maybe they will play their new album, we’ll see, but I’m sure of something, and that is that they will end up with Bro Hymn and they will not disappoint anyone.

Dwarwes, No fun at all, Reverend Horton Heat, Nine Pound Hammer,… is a lineup slightly different that we are used to. It’s very usual to see punk, hxc bands sharing festivals with another heavy and metal bands. It’s not this case they will sabré stage with garage and country bands, a nice different approach. When metal, heavy and hxc bands are sharing the stage, sometimes, we cannot appreciate them properly because of the similar rhythms. I have to say I like this different approach.

We are sure that the Belgians will show their hospitality as always. Something happens in Belgium, there are so many festivals around.

As I said before, we are not sure yet if we will see you in Poeyelhei town, but if so, you will have a review of the festival just straight after.
